The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been remanded into custody for two weeks in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged misinformation and offensive public statements.
The outspoken politician was remanded on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, following his latest appearance before the court, barely weeks after he had earlier secured bail in relation to the same matter.
Abronye DC was initially arrested on Monday, April 13, after authorities launched investigations into allegations of offensive conduct, false publication, and statements reportedly considered capable of inciting fear and panic among sections of the public.
Following his first arrest, he was granted bail to allow investigators to continue their work while he remained out of custody. However, security agencies have now rearrested him as investigations intensify into the controversial comments believed to have sparked public concern.
Although officials are yet to disclose full details surrounding the latest arrest, sources close to the investigations suggest the development forms part of wider efforts by state security agencies to clamp down on the spread of alleged false information and inflammatory public commentary that could threaten public order and national peace.
The court’s decision to remand Abronye DC for two weeks is expected to give investigators more time to gather evidence and determine whether additional charges may be brought against him.
Meanwhile, the case has already generated significant political discussion, with supporters of the NPP closely monitoring developments surrounding one of the party’s most vocal regional executives.
Critics and political observers have also raised concerns over the increasing use of provocative political commentary in the country’s public discourse.
