The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced a 17.5% reduction in electricity tariffs for residential consumers effective march 15. A statement signed by executive secretary Mrs. Mami Dufie Ofori on Monday also indicated a 30% reduction for non-residential consumers, 25% reduction for Special Load Tariff consumers and 10% reduction for mines. Workers of Gold Fields Ghana Limited at Tarkwa in the Western Region have accused management of the mining firm of making some of their colleagues sign letters of redundancy under duress. They also indicated that some of the workers were made to sign fixed term contract.
