Some youth, believed to be members of the governing New Patriotic Party, today made botched attempts to takeover the offices of the National Health Insurance Scheme in Sagnerigu and Tamale metropolis. The about 30 youth stormed the NHIS offices in the Northern region Monday but their efforts to eject workers there were thwarted by the timely intervention of the police. Contractors owed by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) started receiving payment today January 6. 2017 started with some contractors working on GETFund projects picketing at the Ministry of Finance to demand monies owed them. Police officers at the Tamale Airport junction in the Northern Region appear to have defied instruction to suspend checking of vehicular documents on the roads by the Ghana Police Service.
