A jilted lover’s revenge has exploded into a GH¢1.3 million court drama — and the man at the centre of it is none other than former Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) boss, Ernest Thompson.
The New Republic can exclusively reveal that Thompson, who currently chairs the Petroleum Commission, has dragged his estranged girlfriend to court after she allegedly walked away from their six-year romance over his insatiable appetite for womanising.
And now, like a man scorned, he wants his money back all GH¢1,176,476.00 of it.
In a writ of summons issued on November 4, 2025, through his law firm, Thompson Law Consult, based in Adabraka, Accra, the former SSNIT Director-General is demanding that his ex-lover, a businesswoman whose name we are withholding (let’s call her “AK”) of the Airport Residential Area, cough up GH¢100,000 she allegedly took as a loan, plus US$100,000 he claims he gave her for safekeeping.
But here is the twist: the woman does not operate a microfinance company. She is not a bank. And she says she never agreed to keep a single dollar for him.
In her explosive statement of defence, “AK” has fired back, calling Thompson a jilted lover chasing closure through the courts.
She denies receiving US$100,000 for safekeeping, insisting the claim is a fabrication. She admits borrowing GH¢100,000 but says that debt has already been settled through a Menzgold investment whose rights she transferred to Thompson via a deed of transfer.
According to court documents, the pair met in 2015 and their romance lasted six years. During that time, Thompson claims he gave AK various sums for safekeeping, eventually totalling US20,000 at the time to meet an urgent need.
After the relationship crashed, Thompson says he demanded his money back. AK allegedly gave him different timelines, then blocked his number and vanished.
Desperate, Thompson allegedly reached out to a mutual friend, one Charles Juanah, who reported back that AK had admitted owing the money and promised to pay. Thompson also claims she acknowledged the debt in a WhatsApp conversation.
But AK tells a different story a sordid tale of lies, cheating, and betrayal.
In her defence, she claims she ended the relationship because Thompson lied about his marital status. She further portrays him as a playboy who, at one point, presented another girlfriend and her child to her as his niece and the niece’s daughter then asked her to use her own money to shop for the other woman and child.
She insists she owes Thompson nothing and says his suit is baseless, brought in bad faith after she dumped him.
Thompson, through his lawyers, has since filed a reply, denying all allegations and insisting the money was given to AK to keep.
But the question on everyone’s lips remains: if the money was truly for safekeeping, why did a former SSNIT boss a man who knows the value of a bank hand it to his girlfriend instead?
The case, Suit No. GJ 0105/2026, is pending before the High Court’s General Jurisdiction Division. The drama is far from over.
