Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has announced Ghana’s plan to join forces with Rwanda, Zambia, and other African partners in rolling out a pioneering digital trade corridor, marking a decisive step toward a more integrated and seamless African economy.
Speaking at the 3i Africa Summit 2026 in Accra on Wednesday, under the theme : “Innovation, Investment and Impact in Africa’s Fintech Ecosystem,” she highlighted that Africa’s dynamic youth and expanding digital landscape place the continent at the forefront of the next wave of global technological progress.
Opoku-Agyemang noted that emerging economies are set to be at the vanguard of digital transformation, especially in areas such as cross-border commerce, agriculture, healthcare, education, and public service delivery.
The Vice President made it clear that Ghana is committed to moving beyond policy discussions to practical execution across the region.
“To that end, allow me to announce a concrete step. Ghana will work with Rwanda, Zambia and other partners to pilot a continental digital trade corridor,” she stated.
According to her, the pilot will be operationalized, evaluated, and closely monitored, with priority on enabling mobile money interoperability, achieving mutual recognition of digital identities for cross-border Know Your Customer compliance, and aligning electronic invoicing standards.
She added that the initiative reflects Ghana’s broader commitment to advancing digital economic integration and fostering more efficient, inclusive trade throughout Africa.
