The President John Mahama administration, through the Ministry of Finance, has sanctioned the disbursement of GH₵76,466,919.20 to bolster the Senior National Team, the Black Stars, as they prosecute Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The strategic financial intervention has been partitioned into two critical disbursements aimed at guaranteeing optimal preparation and competitive readiness on the global stage.
The government has released GHS 58,929,500.00, equivalent to US $5,000,000.00, as an advance to underwrite the team’s preparatory activities and to defray costs associated with participation in the group stages.
This preemptive allocation underscores the administration’s unwavering commitment to equipping the Black Stars with requisite resources to contend at the apex of world football and project Ghana’s pride internationally.
In addition, the government has settled GHS 17,537,419.20, equivalent to US $1,488,000.00, to defray outstanding performance bonuses accrued during the qualification phase.
These payments honor the performance-based agreement negotiated during the qualifiers, wherein players received 50% of their bonuses during the campaign, with the balance contingent on successful qualification for the tournament.
The government reiterated its steadfast resolve to sustain support for the Black Stars and for the broader development of sports in Ghana.
“We believe this timely release of funds will provide the stability and motivation needed for the technical team and players to focus on their core mandate: delivering success for the people of Ghana.
“We call on all Ghanaians to continue to offer their unwavering support to the Black Stars as they embark on this prestigious journey to the World Cup,” the government affirmed.
The substantial investment is expected to galvanize the technical bench and playing body as they pursue glory for the nation in North America.
