As part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between traditional authorities and state institutions in promoting border security, trade facilitation and national development, the Commissioner of Customs, Aaron Kanor has paid a courtesy call on Torgbiga Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief and President of the Aflao Traditional Council.
The visit, on Friday, 29th May, 2026, provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss issues of mutual concern, particularly the management of Ghana’s eastern border, revenue mobilization, cross-border trade and community engagement.

The Commissioner emphasized the critical role traditional leaders play in maintaining peace and security within border communities, noting that effective collaboration between Customs authorities and traditional institutions is essential in addressing challenges such as smuggling, illegal migration and other cross-border crimes.
According to him, the Customs Division remains committed to working closely with local stakeholders to ensure the efficient movement of legitimate trade while safeguarding national interests.
Torgbiga Amenya Fiti V described the visit as a significant step towards fostering stronger relations between Customs authorities and the people of Aflao.

The Paramount Chief reiterated the strategic importance of Aflao as one of Ghana’s busiest border towns and called for continuous engagement between government agencies and traditional leaders to address emerging challenges along the border corridor.
He also stressed the need for enhanced security measures, improved trade infrastructure and policies that support economic growth while protecting the interests of local communities.
Torgbiga Amenya Fiti V further assured the Customs Division of the Traditional Council’s support in promoting lawful trade activities and sensitizing residents on the importance of complying with customs regulations.

The meeting also touched on opportunities for strengthening economic cooperation, improving revenue collection and ensuring that border communities benefit from national development initiatives.
The visit forms part of ongoing stakeholder engagements by the Customs Division aimed at deepening partnerships with key institutions and community leaders across the country.
