In a public show of stewardship, President Mahama and his appoinees have donated GH¢6.1 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Mahama Cares, Government Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu has disclosed.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, May 7, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated that the Controller and Accountant-General had officially notified the administration that the amount had been deducted and transferred to the Fund, consistent with the President’s earlier mandate to political appointees.
At the inaugural launch of the initiative last year, President Mahama made a solemn commitment to contribute six months of his salary to the Fund and urged his appointees to follow suit with a one-month salary contribution as an emblem of civic responsibility and collective solidarity.
The President also decreed that appointees who neglected to meet the initial asset declaration deadline would forfeit three months of their salaries to the Fund as a corrective measure.
Kwakye Ofosu further indicated that preparations are now in motion to transfer the final tranche of contributions, encompassing deductions from appointees who were noncompliant with the asset declaration directive.
The gesture reflects the administration’s resolve to harness domestic contributions in fortifying Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure and extending critical support to vulnerable populations under the “Mahama Cares” framework.
