President John Mahama has commissioned a state-of-the-art Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scan Facility at the Sweden-Ghana Medical Centre, describing the development as a transformative step in Ghana’s healthcare system and a major boost for cancer diagnosis and treatment in the country.

Speaking at the event, he said, “For far too long, many Ghanaians requiring advanced diagnosis services of this nature have had to travel abroad, often at enormous financial, emotional and psychological cost to them and their families”

He added, today, we make a bold national statement that this facility must not only make it unnecessary for Ghanaians to seek such services abroad but also make Ghana a hub for specialist medical services in our West African sub-region”

The President said he envisions patients from neighbouring countries including Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Togo and Burkina Faso seeking specialist diagnostic services in Ghana.
“With this facility now operational, world-class diagnostic services are no longer out of reach. They are available here in Ghana for the benefit of our people,” he said.
