Somé Senior High School has officially launched its 60th anniversary celebration with a renewed commitment to educational excellence, resilience and stakeholder collaboration in shaping the future of the institution.
The anniversary launch, held on the school’s campus at Agbozume in the Volta Region in February, was on the theme: “Sixty Years of Educational Excellence, Overcoming Challenges and the Role of Stakeholders.”

It brought together leadership of the Old Students Association (SSOSA), Teachers, Educationists, Students and government officials who reflected on the school’s achievements over the past six decades and outlined strategies for its continued growth.
In a brief remark, headmaster of the school, Spencer Agbemenu said the grand anniversary scheduled for 31st October, 2026, will be a moment of reflection, thanksgiving and renewed determination to reposition the institution for greater academic success.
He noted that despite numerous challenges confronting second-cycle institutions in the country, Somé SHS had remained steadfast in its commitment to discipline, quality teaching and holistic student development.

According to him, the school has produced distinguished personalities serving in various sectors of national development, including education, health, security services, business and public administration.
“This celebration will not only be about our past achievements but also about how we can collectively confront current challenges and build a stronger future for the school,” he stated.
The headmaster appealed to stakeholders, particularly old students and corporate bodies, to support the school with infrastructure, teaching and learning materials, ICT facilities and scholarship schemes for needy but brilliant students.

General Secretary of SSOSA, Godson Sena Adjavor commended the school for its contribution to education in the Volta Region and the country at large.
He urged students to uphold discipline and academic excellence while encouraging teachers to continue nurturing future leaders with dedication and integrity.
Adjavor further stressed the importance of stakeholder involvement in educational development, noting that government efforts alone were insufficient to address all the needs of schools across the country.
Some old students who attended the launch expressed pride in the institution’s legacy and pledged their commitment to supporting ongoing development projects.

The old students proposed an ambitious project, the construction of an 800-bed girls dormitory for the school, which they observed will solve the accommodation problem currently hampering the admission of more girls into the school.
Currently, the school has a student population of Thousand Eight Hundred (1800) but has only a 200-bed capacity housing 600 girls.
The proposed girls dormitory is estimated at the cost of Fourteen Million, Twenty Two Thousand and Forty Six Ghana Cedis, Seventy Four Pesewas (GH¢ 14,022,446,74).

The old students also paid a courtesy visit to the school on May 15, 2026, during which they presented a Brand Guide, Anniversary cloth and architectural Drawing of the proposed 800-bed dormitory.
Activities lined up for the anniversary celebration include health screening exercises, educational forums, clean-up campaigns, a fundraising dinner scheduld for August 7 2026, inter-house competitions, a speech and prize-giving day, and a grand homecoming for old students.
