The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has appealed to the public to desist from attacking firefighters during emergency response operations.
The appeal follows a tragic incident resulting in the death of two persons, after a fuel tanker exploded at Adubinsu in the early hours of Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Speaking to the Media, Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, DOII Atta Aheng Mensah, noted that firefighters who responded to a fuel tanker explosion at Adubinsu were met with hostility from some residents, making their work more difficult.
He cautioned that such behaviour hampers rescue efforts and puts lives and property at further risk.
“When our men got to the scene, they were met with hostilities. We plead with civilians to desist from that. Such behaviours will not be tolerated. There was a lot of stone pelting and even sachet water. It took the intervention of some of the elderly people there to calm these youth down for the men to work,” he said.
According to eyewitness accounts, the tanker was travelling from Edwenase towards Adubinsu when the driver allegedly lost control due to brake failure.
The vehicle is said to have somersaulted and exploded, sparking a fire that destroyed six container shops and a nearby house before firefighters brought the blaze under control.
The GNFS has urged the public to cooperate with emergency responders to ensure swift and effective disaster management during such incidents.
