The Tema Regional Police Command has struck a decisive blow against illicit narcotics trafficking after intercepting 12 sacks and 80 parcels of compressed plant material suspected to be Indian hemp during a targeted operation along the Tema–Ada highway. The operation culminated in the arrest of a truck driver who attempted to evade law enforcement.
The seizure took place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, when officers from the Tema Highway Patrol Unit flagged down a Hyundai Mighty II container truck.
According to a police statement, the driver, identified as Bismark Koprneno, ignored directives to stop and attempted to flee. He was pursued and apprehended at Bondase.
“A search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of twelve (12) sacks and eighty (80) parcels of compressed plant materials concealed in a container and wrapped in sellotape,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigations indicate the contraband was loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and was being transported to Ada. The suspect remains in custody assisting investigators, while the vehicle and seized exhibits have been impounded for evidential purposes.
Reaffirming its resolve, the Tema Regional Police Command issued a firm assurance.
“The Tema Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public of its continued commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities and urges citizens to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities,” the statement added.
The operation underscores the Command’s Inflexible resolve against narcotics syndicates operating along the corridor and reaffirms its mandate to protect public safety.
