The Ministry of Health has announced the full restoration of the District Health Information Management System (DHIMS) after a temporary disruption affected the platform used for health data management at the district level.
In a statement issued on November 6, 2026, the Ministry said the system, which is managed by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), had been restored and was now fully operational.
The Ministry explained that DHIMS plays a critical role in the collection, collation and management of health information generated from health facilities across the country.
It expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their patience and understanding during the period the system experienced challenges.

The Ministry also clarified that the Ghana Health Information Management System (GHIMS), which is used by hospitals to manage patients’ medical records and related clinical information, was not affected by the disruption and remained operational throughout the period.
The clarification follows concerns over the possible impact of the system challenge on healthcare delivery, patient records and health reporting.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Ghana’s digital health infrastructure to improve data management, efficiency and the delivery of quality healthcare services.
The restoration of the system comes after concerns were raised in Parliament over the disruption, with Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin calling for the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to appear before the House to provide an explanation.
Mr Afenyo-Markin had requested a briefing on the circumstances surrounding the shutdown, which was reportedly linked to an outstanding cloud hosting bill of more than US$64,000.
The issue triggered discussions in Parliament over the importance of maintaining reliable digital health systems and ensuring uninterrupted access to critical health information.
