The Apinto Divisional Stool has moved to neutralise a widening succession dispute, accusing a self-declared queen mother of fabricating her credentials and colluding with a second claimant to destabilise the traditional area.
At a media briefing in Apinto, Nana Abupanyini (Chief of Maase Nsuta and Tufuhene of Apinto) accused Efua Yaajo, known as ‘Efua Fati’, of posing as a gazetted queen mother and threatening to install a rival chief. He also named Araba Acquaah, who claims the same queen mother stool under the name ‘Nana Abena Boduwa II’, as an ally.
The core allegations:
· Efua Fati falsely claims the kingmakers have “sold the Apinto Stool” and that a High Court in Tarkwa ordered Chief Nana Asare Brempong II to step down.
· No court has destooled the chief, Nana Abupanyini stated.
· The Tufuhene said the kingmakers have initiated legal action to have Efua Fati’s 1994 registration as a queen mother expunged from the National Register of Chiefs, describing it as “fraudulently secured”.
· Her claim of installation on 8 December 1988 the same day her alleged predecessor ‘Efua Yaajo I’ died is “concocted”. No such person exists in the royal family, he added.
On 21 May 2026, the kingmakers filed injunctions before the Wassa Fiase Traditional Council against both women, plus a High Court action seeking to remove Efua Fati’s name from the national register.
Pattern of behaviour, according to Nana Abupanyini: “File suits, make false media statements, pose as traditional authorities, then threaten illegal installations.”
Control over the Apinto Divisional Stool. The Tufuhene declared that the traditional area has “no properly gazetted queen mother yet”. He reaffirmed the kingmakers’ unalloyed support for Nana Asare Brempong II pending the outcome of legal applications that seek to restrain him.
Efua Fati and her collaborators have not yet responded publicly to the kingmakers’ latest statements. The case now moves to the courts, with the traditional council also seized of the matter.
The bottom line: A succession fight in Apinto has entered a new phase, with the stool’s leadership moving to delegitimise two rival queen mother claimants through both customary and judicial channels.
