The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 32-year-old man, Abraham Awendok, in connection with the suspected murder of medical doctor Dr Jesse Amuah and his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Esi Amuah, who went missing in April 2026.
Mr Awendok, who reportedly worked as an errand boy for the couple, was deported from Dubai to Ghana on August 30, 2026, following an international manhunt.
The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, disclosed this at a press briefing on Monday, September 7, saying investigations into the couple’s disappearance had led to the recovery of their remains at locations linked to them.
He said the remains had been conveyed to the Police Hospital for preservation and autopsy as investigations into the circumstances surrounding their deaths continue.
Suspect allegedly fled to UAE
According to the IGP, investigations identified Mr Awendok as the prime suspect in the alleged murder of the couple.
The police said he also allegedly took money belonging to the couple’s mother before fleeing Ghana for the United Arab Emirates.
Following his departure, the suspect was placed on an international wanted list through an Interpol Red Notice.
The IGP said investigators from the Anti-Robbery Unit, working with Interpol, subsequently facilitated his deportation from Dubai to Ghana on August 30.
Suspect allegedly confesses
The police said Mr Awendok admitted during interrogation to killing the couple.
A vehicle allegedly taken by the suspect after the incident has also been recovered by investigators.
He is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that it will provide further information as the case progresses, while efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths of Dr Amuah and his wife.
