-95 Projects Nationwide Target One Million Ghanaians

In a significant demonstration of corporate citizenship, employees of GCB Bank PLC have mobilized resources to support hospitals, schools, and vulnerable groups across the Accra West enclave.
The interventions, which spanned healthcare, education, and social welfare, form part of a broader nationwide effort by the bank’s staff to execute 95 community projects aimed at impacting one million Ghanaians.
The Accra West projects were spearheaded by three distinct groups of employees drawn from 18 GCB branches. Rather than operating from a distance, the staff identified specific needs within their operational communities and contributed their own time, skills, and resources to address them.
At Achimota Hospital, staff from the Tesano, Nima, Accra New Town, Achimota, Weija, and Amasaman branches donated a consignment of essential medical supplies. The donation included blood pressure apparatus, suction catheters, nasal prongs, oxygen flow devices, gloves, disinfectants, sanitisers, and bedsheets. The team also provided metallic chairs to support the hospital’s daily operations.
Similarly, employees from the Nungua, Martey Tsuru, Spintex, and Airport City branches extended support to LEKMA Hospital. Their donation focused on medical consumables, including BP apparatus, suction catheters, urine and stool containers, nasal prongs, and Dosiflow devices.
Beyond physical infrastructure and medical supplies, the GCB teams focused on human capital development.
Staff from the Tesano cluster engaged 100 students of Accra Girls Senior High School in a mentorship session. The interactive forum focused on confidence building, career choices, and personal development, allowing the students to engage directly with banking professionals about their future aspirations.
In a separate intervention, employees from the Osu, Trade Fair Site, Burma Camp, Abelenkpe, and Osu Oxford branches turned their attention to the Senior Correctional Centre in Roman Ridge. The team provided basic necessities for juvenile offenders and held counselling sessions centered on positive choices and preparing for the future. The same group donated medical consumables to the Mamobi Polyclinic.
The third intervention group, comprising staff from the Nungua cluster, organized a preventive health talk at the Nungua Zongo Central Mosque. They also supported Najar Islamic School with teaching and learning materials, including exercise books, whiteboards, stationery, ceiling fans, teachers’ tables and chairs, and drinking water.
Commenting on the initiative, Cynthia Ofori-Dwumfuo, Chief Marketing, Communications and Customer Experience Officer of GCB Bank, emphasized that the programme reflects a practical approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
“Good CSR should respond to real needs and create social impact that people can experience in their everyday lives,” she said. “What makes this programme particularly important is that our employees are not simply supporting projects from a distance. They are identifying needs, engaging with people and contributing their own time, skills and resources to address them.”
Kamil Muhammed Ismail, Accra West Zonal Manager for GCB Bank, noted that the diversity of the projects reflected the varied needs of the communities.
“We looked at the needs around our branches and asked where our support could be most useful,” he said. “Seeing our teams respond in these different ways has been very encouraging.”
The Accra West interventions are the second, third, and fourth of the 95 projects being implemented under the GCB Staff Community Impact Programme (SCIP) between August and September 2026. The nationwide initiative involves over 4,500 employees and covers key areas such as healthcare, education, water and sanitation, environmental sustainability, and youth development.
