The Ministry of Health has reported major advancements in enhancing conditions for health workers, stating that 13,500 nurses have been added to the government payroll.

In a statement, the Ministry revealed that the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) visited the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

During their meeting, the GRNMA team offered a sincere apology to the Minister for a recent media attack against him and talked about ways to improve cooperation between nurses and the government.

The Ministry highlighted some important achievements, noting that the government has set up the Ghana Medical Training Fund (GMTF) and made significant investments in upgrading health facilities across the country.

The statement also confirmed that all outstanding payments for nursing training allowances and National Health Insurance claims have been fully addressed. Furthermore, the government has covered 50% of admission fees for students in nursing training programs.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of the collective bargaining agreement with the GRNMA to enhance service conditions for nurses, stressing that these actions are part of the efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

It called on stakeholders and the public to stay calm, assuring that the government is committed to addressing issues within the health sector.

The GRNMA delegation included former President Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey, current President Dr. Krobea Asante, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, and General Secretary Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum.
