Discusses National, International Issues

President John Dramani Mahama on Monday afternoon paid a courtesy call on his predecessor, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, at his residence in Accra.
The visit, according to the President, was to check on the well-being of the former statesman and to exchange views on matters of national and international importance.
President Mahama disclosed this in a post on his social media platforms, accompanied by photographs of the two leaders.
“I passed by the residence of President JA Kufuor this afternoon to check on him and find out how he’s doing and also discuss some national and international issues,” the President wrote.

Photographs from the meeting showed the two statesmen shaking hands and exchanging smiles, reflecting the cordial relationship they have maintained despite belonging to different political parties.
President Mahama, who represents the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and former President Kufuor, a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have continued to engage with each other beyond their political differences.
The visit highlights the importance of dialogue and personal relationships among Ghana’s political leaders, particularly on issues affecting the country and the international community.
Monday’s meeting is not the first time President Mahama has visited the former Ghanaian leader at his residence. The two have held similar private engagements in the past, although details of their discussions have not always been made public.
While the latest meeting did not disclose the specific issues discussed, President Mahama’s account indicated that the conversation covered both domestic and international affairs.
The engagement comes as the two experienced political leaders continue to maintain a cordial relationship, offering an example of interaction across Ghana’s political divide.
At the moment, Ghana has only two former presidents. Former President Akufo-Addo, whom President Mahama succeeded, has also been around just that Mahama doesn’t visit him to consult like he does with Kufuor.
