Celebrated Zimbabwean Pan-Africanist Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao has praised the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Raymond Archer, for his handling of corruption cases involving former state officials.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Dr. Chihombori-Quao, who is also the founder of the African Diaspora Development Institute (ADDI), is seen expressing her admiration for Mr. Archer for “kicking ass” during a conversation with some colleagues.
According to the celebrated physician, diplomat, and activist, Mr. Archer’s tough stance on corruption has made Ghana a special example for other African countries to emulate.
“What makes Ghana so special is that, they have a young man, his name is Raymond Archer, who is over the anti-corruption bureau for Ghana. And he is doing an amazing job – he has locked up and recovered millions of Ghanaian cedis that have been lost to corruption. “So, Raymond Archer, he is kicking ass in Ghana and now, Ghana has signed an MoU for anti-corruption,” she gushed.
The international praise comes as Mr. Archer leads EOCO in pursuing cases involving a number of former officials of the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government over the alleged theft and embezzlement of state funds.
Mr. Archer was appointed Executive Director of EOCO in May 2025, after briefly serving as Deputy Executive Director and later as Acting Executive Director.
By the close of 2025, the year of his appointment, he had led EOCO to recover GH¢617.5 million in taxpayer funds reportedly stolen by appointees of the previous administration.
A former award-winning journalist, Mr. Archer was the first Ghanaian journalist to be named Best Journalist in Africa.
He is also remembered for founding and editing The Enquirer, one of Ghana’s investigative newspapers.
“He has done an amazing job in Ghana, Zimbabwe is joining in and saying, we too must go after state assets; we must go after corruption,” Dr. Chihombori-Quao said, adding, “we all know, in Africa, corruption is the killer of Africa’s development.”
