A head-on collision between a 33-seater Mercedes-Benz passenger bus (GR 3215-E) and a Mercedes-Benz container truck (WR 1553-C) at Peki-Tsame near Peki Senior High School in the early hours of Tuesday, 2nd June 2026, has killed 15 people and injured 25 others. The bus was travelling from Battor to Kabiti in the Oti Region, while the truck was heading from Nkwanta to Accra.
Among the 40 persons involved, firefighters extricated 25 injured survivors, including two babies who tragically lost their mothers in the crash. The deceased—nine males and six females—have been deposited at the Peki Government Hospital mortuary. The injured are receiving treatment at the same facility while a few will be transferred immediately to the teaching hospital in Ho.

Volta Regional Minister James Gunu visited the survivors at the hospital and was received by Medical Superintendent Dr. Daniel Okyere Koranteng. The Minister has been deeply troubled as a result of this accident.
Following the hospital visit, he paid a courtesy call on Torgbuiga Deiga Kwadzo Dei XII, Paramount Chief of the Peki Traditional Area, in response to a telephone call His Royal Majesty had earlier placed to the Minister regarding recurring fatal accidents on the Peki road. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. The Minister extends his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, especially the two babies who have lost their mothers.
