The recent outbursts by Gabby Asare Otchere Darko continue to attract condemnation from leading figures of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who are incensed about the development.
One of such is the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Subin constituency, in the Ashanti Region, Eugene Yaw Boakye Antwi, who has also debunked the claim.
Boakye Antwi reacting to the comment during an interview in Kumasi, disclosed that the comment has really angered a lot of party figures and that not only are they expressing disquiet in public many are doing the same on the quiet.
He disclosed that, the immediately past Vice Presidential candidate of the NPP Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh alias NAPO, equally peeved has been slugging it out with Gabby, who was a very prominent member of the previous government even though he held no key position.
“Yesterday, the fight between him and NAPO on a platform, was no joke. Yes, because it is looking like we don’t know what we are about”.
He said the two have been bantering on a social media page the three belong. Sharing his view on the subject matter, the former parliamentarian berated the cousin of former President Akufo-Addo.
The former Subin MP said the only time he recalls was when the then Finance Minister met them as a caucus in Parliament and told them point blank that roads do not win election. As MP, Boakye Antwi said they never met the Roads Minister.
“NPP we like problem, we are first to make claims but when others respond then there is claim that we are speaking too much in the public space. I was MP, “What he [Gabby] said is false. NPP, those of you who want the truth listen to me. We had a caucus meeting then Ken Ofori-Atta attended. What he told us was that we don’t use roads to win election. I, Yaw Boakye is the one telling you. Call any MP in our caucus and ask them. We should let sleeping dogs lie because some of us are alive we will speak the truth”, he said.
In the assessment of the former MP, Gabby is exhibiting stinking arrogance explain nowhere did they meet the then Minister for Roads and Highways and they said they wanted inner roads than flyovers?
“Where from this arrogance and pomposity? People should go and vote for you then you disrespect them. That arrogance you display if you are given equal doze then you say that person is hot headed. When did Amoako Atta meet us in Parliament, it is untrue. We rather came to Kumasi and the Regional Minister asked that we bring roads we want done but I for instance said we don’t need major roads because our roads are fairly good so they should take it to Kwabre East because their roads are more, because Subin along cannot win election for NPP but even that we see it privately. But you say you met Ashanti MPs and we said we don’t want communal roads? It is too early in the morning”.
Boakye Antwi who is vying for the General Secretary position went on to issue more venom on Gabby for denigrating Ashantes. He charge lawyer and journalist to mind his business and leave the NPP for them to rebuild it to it past glory.
“Where the party is now they should leave our party to build it and shut up because if they speak like that they annoy people. It was during our time as Ashanti MPs that we did inner roads; did 10 constituencies in Ashanti Region, I was the caucus secretary. Does he know the things we pushed to Ashanti Region?
They should not annoy us, where we have reached, we are no novice. No one speaks boldly than Ashanti MPs because this is where we get most the votes. If you have done what you did in government and you have completed your term go and leave the party for us. If we reply your falsehoods and we reply then you say we are destroying the party.
Where did Amoako Atta meet us? President also met us at the Jubilee House and we listed roads yes that one happened but who spoke about flyover when the president has met you. That man should shut up. I have mentioned no name but he should shut up”, he said on Nhyira FM.
Gabby Asare Otchere Darko has stoke fire in the NPP after a video of him speaking in the United Kingdom (UK), emerged showing him speaking passionately about some deeds of Ashanti MPs.
Gabby, who was speaking to party members berated the MPs for allegedly apologizing to Ashantes following their defeat in the last December election, saying it was politically unwise to do so as it could cost them the 2028 election.
He also expressed disquiet about claims that the Akufo-Addo government neglected the party’s stronghold when it comes to infrastructure, stressing that when the government wanted to make massive infrastructural projects like flyovers, the MPs rejected the idea.
