The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued an 18-hour weather forecast predicting a tale of two climates for Wednesday, July 22, 2026. While parts of northern Ghana are expected to experience thunderstorms and rain, southern Ghana will wake up to cloudy skies, patches of mist, and fog.
Valid from 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, the forecast highlights distinct weather patterns across the country’s ecological zones:
Southern Ghana: Mist, Fog, and Light Drizzle Coastal, forest, and mountainous regions in the south will start the day with reduced visibility due to mist and fog. Motorists are particularly advised to drive with caution during the early morning hours.
Specific Areas: Towns such as Takoradi, Axim, Koforidua, and Kumasi are expected to wake up to misty conditions. Accra and Winneba may experience slight morning showers before transitioning to variably cloudy skies later in the day.
Temperatures: Coastal areas will see temperatures ranging between 23°C and 29°C, while forest zones will record highs of 23°C to 30°C.
Northern and Transition Belts: Cloudiness and Thunderstorms The northern sector will begin the day with a mix of cloudiness and sunny intervals. However, this calm is expected to give way to rainy conditions.
Morning: A few areas in the north and transition zones will see rain accompanied by occasional thunder early in the day.
Evening: From late afternoon into the evening, thunderstorms and rain are highly likely to redevelop across the northern sector, as well as parts of the transition and middle belts.
Specific Areas: Northern towns including Tamale, Bolgatanga, Wa, Damongo, and Nalerigu should prepare for the evening showers.
Temperatures: The north will experience the warmest conditions, with maximum temperatures reaching up to 33°C. Minimum temperatures are expected to hover between 21°C in the transition belt and 24°C in the north.
Marine Forecast and Public Advisory For those heading out to sea, GMet notes that the state of the ocean will remain calm, making conditions generally favorable for marine activities.
Meanwhile, the agency has issued a strong public advisory, urging commuters in mist- and fog-prone areas to reduce their speed and drive carefully. Additionally, residents in areas forecasted to experience afternoon and evening thunderstorms are encouraged to stay updated on GMet’s weather alerts and take necessary safety precautions.
Generally, Ghanaians can expect weather conditions to improve across most parts of the country by midday, giving way to a mix of sunshine and cloud cover before the evening storms set in.
