President John Dramani Mahama has earned applauds after he was captured in a video stopping to offer a helping hand during an accident in Accra.
The incident apparently happened on Thursday, July 9, while on his way home on the Airport Hills road.
In the video that has gone viral, the President is seen with members of his convoy, stopping at the scene offering assistance as often done passersby on the street in Ghana.
The video recorded by an enthused lady said the accident occurred moments before the president arrived.
But instead of getting his security details to clear the road to pass, he rather opted to stop and ensure that things were put in order properly.
The recorder of the video said, attempt had been made to curtail the situation when he arrived. With admiration, the lady showered praises on the president calling him a “gentleman”.
“So, I don’t know what’s happening on the Mahama Road, Airport Hills, but for some reason after whatever happened and then they pushed the vehicle, I don’t know if you can see the vehicle in the video, and then they pushed it to the side, right.
And shortly after there was a motorcade coming through with state officials, you see the government crest and everything on the vehicle and I knew Mahama was in it. And guess what? Mahama stopped! This man is a gentle man. Gosh, see him.
The president was on his way home from somewhere and he saw that the accident had happened and then he stopped. See him, this is Mahama. See him, see him right there”, she narrated in the brief video.
With shock, she added “Mahama stopped. Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! This man is surely a gentleman. See him, see him standing right there. Do you see him? Do you see him? Do you see him in the brown? Do you see him in the brown? I’m so excited like…”
This is not the first time he is seen in public offering help to people in distressed. Days ago, President Mahama was captured in a similar video offering first aid to another accident victim.
In that video, he busily tried to stabilize the victims while calling for ambulance to take the victims, numbering two to the hospitals.
While many have been full of praise and commended his sense of love and humility and humanity often shown, others think that the President is putting himself in danger. They say while the gesture may be commendable, sometimes such accidents may be a deliberate ploy to harm him.
They urged him to be extra careful of his security so that he is not caught on aware.
