The Ghana Police Service has categorically refuted media reports alleging that suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Andrew Amankwa, father-in-law of Goldbod CEO Sammy Gyamfi, have absconded from custody.
Mr. Amankwa was fatally shot during a brazen armed robbery at the Ohwim Tigo Junction in Kumasi on Friday, February 13.
Despite receiving intensive medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
In the aftermath of the incident, four suspects were apprehended through a meticulously coordinated operation spearheaded by the Police Intelligence Directorate, in collaboration with the Anti-Robbery Unit and the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement teams.
Reports that surfaced on April 27, 2026, claimed the suspects had staged a jailbreak and escaped lawful custody.
However, authoritative police sources have dismissed those assertions as unfounded, confirming that all suspects remain securely detained as judicial proceedings advance.
