The Somé Traditional Council has officially launched the 2026 edition of the Sométutu Zâ Festival, calling on citizens, residents, and sons and daughters of the Somé Traditional Area, both at home and abroad, to unite in celebrating the area’s rich cultural heritage while championing development.
The colorful launch ceremony held on Wednesday, July 22, was at Adafienu -Batekorme, was attended by traditional rulers, queen mothers, opinion leaders, government officials, and members of the public, marked the beginning of activities leading to the annual festival, which has become one of the most significant cultural events in the Volta Region.
Addressing the gathering, the Paramount Chief and President of the Somé Traditional Area, Torgbiga Adamah III, emphasized that the festival is not merely a cultural celebration but a platform for promoting peace, unity, and sustainable development within the traditional area. He urged all citizens to put aside their differences and work together for the progress of the community.
He noted that Sométutu Za remains an important occasion for showcasing the rich traditions, customs, music, dance, and history of the Somé people while also attracting visitors and investors to the area.
The Makorsor of Somé appealed to indigenes living abroad to return home in large numbers during the festival to reconnect with their roots and contribute to the socio-economic transformation of their communities.
Traditional leaders also announced that this year’s festival would feature a series of activities, including traditional rites, a grand durbar of chiefs, cultural performances, sporting competitions, health screening exercises, educational programmes, and community development initiatives.
Other speakers at the launch stressed the need to preserve the cultural values handed down by generations while embracing modern development opportunities that would improve livelihoods across the traditional area.
Residents expressed optimism that the 2026 Sométutu Za Festival would strengthen community bonds, boost local businesses, and enhance tourism in the area.
The Somé Traditional Council called on government agencies, corporate organizations, development partners, and the general public to support the successful organization of the festival, describing it as a celebration of identity, unity, and shared prosperity.
