Torgbi Baku IV, Dufia of Denu in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region has donated 30 full sets of desk top computers, plastic chairs and dust bins to 3 basic schools under his chiefdom.

The donation forms part of a broader vision to drive education, sanitation, economic empowerment and peaceful coexistence in the area.

The beneficiary schools included Denu Chicago Junior High School, Denu R.C Basic School, and A.M.E. Zion Junior High School.

At a brief ceremony to hand over the items, Torgbi Baku IV said the donation was aimed at positioning children in the enclave to compete in a rapidly changing technological world, explaining that computer literacy is the foundation for understanding modern innovations such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), stressing that early exposure would prepare learners for future opportunities.

“When children learn computing, they are not just learning how to type or use a computer —They are being introduced to the new world of Artificial Intelligence. From computing, they can elevate into AI and future digital skills,” Torgbi Baku IV stated.

He underscored the importance of empowering young learners with digital skills at the basic level to ensure that they were not left behind in the global technological transformation.

The traditional ruler pledged his continuous support to ensure favourable teaching and learning outcomes in all schools under his chiefdom, emphasizing the need for other well-meaning individuals and institutions to do same.

As part of the donation, the Denu Dufia and his elders also presented plastic chairs to fishing associations at the Denu Landing Beach, to support meetings, coordination and peaceful engagement among fisherfolk.

According to the chief, strengthening dialogue structures within the fishing community is critical to maintaining harmony and sustaining the local economy.

To promote environmental cleanliness, dust bins were distributed to several communities and institutions, including Hedzranawo, Afekotuime, Shikakorpe, Amedenuta, Denu Police Station, Three Town Senior High School, St. Anthony Primary School and Hedzranawo No.1 Basic School.

Torgbi Baku IV stressed that sanitation is closely linked to health, discipline and peace, urging residents to use the facilities responsibly.

Call for Unity and Support for Development

Torgbi Baku IV, reaffirmed his commitment to physical development, quality education, economic growth and peace among the people of Denu, calling on natives of the town—both home and abroad—to support development initiatives and rally behind his leadership.

“Development cannot be achieved by one person alone. I call on all sons and daughters of Denu to support the growth of our town and uphold peace,” he appealed.

Headteachers of the beneficiary schools and other recipients took turns to express their appreciation to the Denu Dufia for the gesture, while promising to ensure that the items were judiciously used.

Residents have described the donation as a clear demonstration of forward-looking traditional leadership, positioning Denu for a future rooted in education, technology, sanitation and unity, with hopes of a better and prosperous Denu.
