The police in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 22-year old Patrick Antwi, over kidnapping allegations. The young man, is allegedly involved in kidnapping of his victims for ransoms. He’s been plying his crime in the regional capital but luck recently alluded hence his apprehension. Antwi, according to reports, usually abducts school-going children and demands ransom for their family members before releasing them. Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has led a fact-finding mission to Latvia, following the death of an 18-year old Ghanaian student. Ahyia Nana Agyei Oduro, tragically lost his life in June 2025, while studying in Riga Technical University (RTU) for a brief period, approximately six months. The incident however did not occur at the campus of the university. Authorities in Latvia had suggested that Nana Agyei died by suicide after falling from the sixth-floor apartment. The 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has taken a commanding lead in the presidential election held today, Saturday, January 31. The former vice president has polled 55, 926 votes representing 57.61% of 132 out of the 277 polling stations. From the results so far, Dr Bawumia appears to be cruising to victory for the second time despite his votes reducing if compared to the 2023 results. Two former Presidents from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), did not vote in the presidential election held today, Saturday, January 31. The two, John Agyekum Kufuor and Akufo-Addo, who by their positions as ex-presidents were delegates who were supposed to have voted but were nowhere to be found during the process. Polls started at 7am and closed at 2pm but checks show the two did not vote in their polling stations. The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) says it has seized and is managing multiple high-value properties, fuel stations, cash, vehicles and apartments linked to the ongoing criminal case against former National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, and nine other accused persons.
