GEA Brokers Partnership For Ghanaian Nurses To Work In Columbus, Ohio

Qualified Ghanaian health professionals, particularly nurses, are set to take up structured employment in Columbus, Ohio, following a partnership brokered by the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA).

The arrangement has been formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the City of Columbus, Ghana’s Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment, and the Ministry of Health.

Announcing the arrangement, GEA Chief Executive Officer Margaret Ansei said the partnership creates a clear pathway for qualified Ghanaian professionals to work in the United States city.

The initiative began in February 2026, when a delegation from the Office of the Mayor of Columbus visited the GEA to explore areas of potential cooperation, including the possibility of opening opportunities for Ghanaian nurses within the city’s healthcare sector.

Following that engagement, Ms Ansei facilitated further discussions between the Columbus delegation and the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment.

The consultations were later expanded to include the Ministry of Health, as stakeholders worked out how the movement of Ghanaian health professionals could be structured to meet labour, regulatory and professional requirements.

The process culminated in the signing of the MoU in September 2026.

The agreement provides a framework for the professional deployment of qualified Ghanaian health professionals, subject to applicable laws, professional licensing requirements, employment conditions and the terms agreed by the participating institutions.

It also establishes clear procedures covering recruitment, selection, employment arrangements, professional requirements and the responsibilities of each institution.

The parties have stressed that the process must uphold the dignity, professionalism and welfare of participating Ghanaian professionals, ensuring they are treated fairly and supported throughout, with their qualifications, rights and personal dignity central to implementation.

Beyond employment, the GEA said the partnership opens the door to institutional cooperation, professional exchange and knowledge sharing in the healthcare sector, and will strengthen broader ties between Ghana and the City of Columbus.

The Agency reiterated its commitment to initiatives that create meaningful opportunities for Ghanaians while ensuring international partnerships involving Ghanaian professionals meet high standards of professionalism, transparency and dignity.
